Making money with Text Link Ads

  • First off, I have to admit that in most of my online ventures, I haven’t really succeeded. Adsense has not yet yielded me a dime in actual payouts. Affiliate programs have never really worked for me. Referral programs haven’t worked. Paid to email and paid to play games or surf the net seem to take too much time and not give enough back in return.
The one success that I’ve had was with .
One day, I googled “How to make money with your blog” and I found a list of ten things one guy had tried. I signed up for them all using my blog Poor Vago’s Almanack and then I waited to see the results. A few ads sold in the first month and I got a payment for $22 from TLA. Then they just kept selling. At one point, I was getting around $240 a month but then back in February, my payouts started to decrease. This came from a combination of things, 1st, TLA had stopped taking ads from gambling sites and casinos. 2nd, my content had shifted from fairly racey stuff to tales of my travels and adventures and as a result my pagerank had decreased. At least that is what I think happened. At the moment, I am making about $130 a month.
I don’t remember any of the other programs I signed up for, but definitely works and it does so in a way that doesn’t leave big ugly ads all over your site. In fact, I’ve never found a TLA ad on my front page.
So sign up for TLA today and see if you too can start making some money. It really works.

Smoke rings and Swine Flu and Missing Authors

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realised God doesn’t work that way, so I stole
one and prayed for forgiveness. – Emo Philips

Okay, here are a couple of interesting things I found on the web this morning. This first one is a video of colored smoke rings colliding to create a vortex, it’s what physicists do when they smoke weed:

See more funny videos and Technology Videos at Today’s Big Thing.

Then, since we all know that the Swine Flu is going to be hitting again in the fall, why not see what you can do about it by playing this new online game in which you try to control the spread of a pandemic.

In an effort to further raise awareness, Dutch researchers have created a game that challenges players to control a new?pandemic.
“It is actually what is happening now, what is happening in the real world,” said Albert Osterhaus, head of virology at the Erasmus Medical Center, who designed “The Great Flu” game with colleagues.
The game can only be played online at and it is free. A World Health Organization spokesman said Monday the agency was not familiar with the game and had not had time to play it.

Finally, there is this interesting concept from Wired writer Evan Ratcliff. This caught my eye because I’ve been considering doing something similar, but since I don’t have $5000 or a magazine publisher to promote the fact that I am missing, I figured no one would actually care.

I’m going missing. I’m leaving behind friends, family, and everything familiar, and I’m challenging you to find me. If you do, you’ll win $5,000

The Fantastic Depression

A message from JayPee Morgan

this comes from The World’s Least Trusted Financial Advice.

Well, it’s the start of a new week and we are telling our clients to buy, buy, buy and to hold, hold, hold. The reason for this is that it looks like another meltdown is getting ready to begin. There’s only so many cards that a table of smoke and mirrors can support and we figure it’s all about to go up in smoke again.
As Rick Perlstein writes, “the crazy tree blooms in every moment of liberal ascendancy, and where elites exploit the crazy for their own narrow interests.
I couldn’t agree more. For instance, we keep hearing how the economy is set to rebound, but look at the data and you see something quite different:

More than 15.2 million U.S. mortgages, or 32.2 percent of all mortgaged properties, were in negative equity position as of June 30, 2009 according to newly released data from First American CoreLogic. As of June 2009, there were an additional 2.5 million mortgaged properties that were approaching negative equity. Negative equity and near negative equity mortgages combined account for nearly 38 percent of all residential properties with a mortgage nationwide.

To me, this looks like Katrina is ready to strike again.
negative property values
You didn’t really believe it could be that easy for everyone to own their own home did you? Even my crack dealer knew that was a lie.

The Obama administration, in a major shift on housing policy, is abandoning George W. Bush’s vision of creating an “ownership society’’ and instead plans to pump $4.25 billion of economic stimulus money into creating tens of thousands of federally subsidized rental units in American cities.

Based on our economic data and the opinion of my crack dealer, “Mojo”, I am fairly certain that the bottom of the housing market is still nearly five years ahead of us. Real unemployment sits at nearly 25% (because remember, the figures you hear elsewhere are only those collecting benefits, which run out, so when it seems that the numbers are getting better, just the opposite is true. Now they are unemployed and incomeless too.)
All of that is why we recommend that you buy and hold. No one else is going to.

Stocks are plunging and Treasury prices are soaring in the early moments of trading Monday as investors around the world fear that consumers are too skittish to help lift the economy into recovery.
U.S. stocks are down sharply after overseas markets extended the heavy selling that began Friday. That pullback followed a weaker-than-expected reading on consumer confidence.
After sending stocks higher for five months on expectations of an economic recovery, investors are now worried that they have been too optimistic given consumers’ continuing reluctance to spend.

August is a difficult month

this comes from, a blog of spirituality and existence

I don’t know why this is, but it does seem that August is always a difficult time for me physically, mentally, and existentially. Knowing this is more than half the battle. I also know that things invariably improve dramatically for me as the year winds down. So, there it is.
At the moment, I am (obviously) figuring some things out. Getting some catharsis and looking at a generalized direction to go with career, life, and more. I’m in a good place to do that. The small ranch I am on is quiet and gives me the space to think, explore, and write. Not to mention, I like waking up and doing the chores.
I usually wake up around dawn, make coffee, then go feed the horses, feed the chickens, water the gardens, and maybe ride around the place on one of the quad wheelers. Not bad for a homeless guy, right? It’s one of those situations that just came up and I happened to be able to say yes to. That’s one of the reasons prefer to keep my options open, because when something like this comes up, I can say yes to it.
Don’t get me wrong, this is very temporary, probably two weeks at the longest and more likely a week or so. I’m just thankful to have it. Especially in August. It’s so funny, most of the truly traumatic experiences of my life have taken place during the 8th month. The universe sometimes seems to stack things up like that.
And so it goes. I’ve got several challenges ahead of me. Personal, professional, and spiritual. On the personal level, I’ve put on some weight since getting to the U.S., I want to shed those pounds. On the professional level, I really want this job in Indonesia and I need to figure out how to make my blogging more than just a hobby, and on the spiritual level, Ramadan starts very soon and I will be taking the Feeding the Spirit journey. The nice part is that I can see how these three goals line up and work together.
So yes, August is a difficult month, but in truth, the only times we ever actually learn anything are when we are suffering. I’m grateful to suffer so that I can learn not to suffer.

Long days online

I’m spending way too much time online. I’m really trying to figure out how folks make money on the internet and what I’m finding is that everything is for sale. It all revolves around pagerank, a ranking system that google came up with. The higher the pagerank, the better your chances of making any money. There are people selling everything online:
Want traffic to your site? You can buy 10K unique U.S. visitors for $10
Want links on pageranked sites? You can buy them.
Want comments on your blog? You can pay for them.
Want content? That’s for sale too.
Want site reviews? For sale.
Essentially it all comes down to me asking, what is real on the internet? The answer? Nothing. It’s just like everything else. A big illusion hidden behind a mask that pretends to be real but isn’t. Crazy stuff. Wow.

Burning Bridges

Okay. So moving on. Sometimes one has to burn the bridges to actually get across the rough water. I feel that I’ve done that now and am ready to get going again.
Ramadan is coming very soon and I’m going to be following the advice that I put together in “Feeding the Spirit” on my blog over at If you want to go along on this trip with me, I would love the company. One thing that makes the 30 day fast easier is having company along for the ride.
Why not pick up an e-copy of Feeding the Spirit and join me. We can share all of our insights and revelations and maybe we will actually make some discoveries and in the process take concrete steps towards making the world a better place.
Certainly in recent days I’ve been reminded that I am a fundamentally flawed human being just like everyone else. I think that is the important part. One has to make that realization if one is to progress in any sort of way.
So grab a copy of Feeding the Spirit, read the introduction and get ready to discover things about life, God,yourself, and the universe.
Ramadan will begin in North America on Saturday, August 22nd. It will continue until September 20.

Oh, by the way Dad…

I never wanted your god damn money. You’ve told me so many times that I wouldn’t get an inheritance that I truly believed you. All I wanted was a Dad. And incidentally, those two years you like to say you were looking for us and didn’t know where we were, we were living with the alcoholic and the child molestor and we got your child support checks right on time every month…delivered to our door. Thanks for the birthday presents too…
Just in case you didn’t get my letters…my dog got killed, I had to stick a gun in the assholes mouth when he broke mom’s back, we had big bins of pot on the coffee table while we watched wheel of fortune on the tv in the trailer, and the math teacher at Coffenberry Junior High beat me nearly every day with a big wooden paddle.
I think that’s about it. Have a nice time on your next cruise. I understand why you weren’t able to help me stay in college when i got out of the marines because you had just got back from Hawaii, and why since you got married for a week we couldn’t afford to take the motorcycle/golf trip to Australia you promised me if I got straight A’s, and that your crank habit, corvette, and boat made it impossible to build a birch bark canoe like we talked about.
Oh yeah, you’re dead to me. I forgot.
But since I’m talking to you anyway, I remember doing crank with you and your girlfriend and when i ran away from home cause you hit me, I lived with her but despite the rumours you spread, I wasn’t having sex with her, and even though you deny it, you really did beat up my grandma and my mom.
You’re one hell of a guy.
And Grandpa told me you robbed your mom. He also showed me the will that said each grandkid got $10K and I wasn’t really surprised that you patched things up before he died and that none of us grandkids got anything. He understood you even less than me.
And finally, thanks for kicking me out with no notice after promising me a job for the summer. I’m sure I deserved it for being tired and working hard. No one ever treated me that way before, at least it was you, my Dad, so I could understand it.
You are and were and will be a miserable asshole and you get what you deserve. Enjoy it.
p.s. It’s a shame that you didn’t have the ‘patience’ to get to know the man I am. It seems that everyone I know respects and loves the man I am, except for you. I guess I have you to thank for that. I watched so much dysfunction in my childhood that I determined not to become the same. My parents gave me the greatest gift of all, the example of what I could become if I didn’t live with compassion, love, and a sense that my actions directly affect those around me. I count myself lucky in that I have people that love me, I just always wished that you were one of them.

Super Cheap Hotel

Here’s a real bargain for you!

ROME (Reuters) – Hundreds of holiday makers struck lucky when they chanced upon a very special offer — a mistake in a hotel booking system which offered a romantic four-star weekend in Italy’s lagoon city of Venice for 1 cent.
The offer, a tiny fraction of the Crowne Plaza Quarto D’Altino’s normal rate of up to 150 euros (130 pounds) a night, was quickly withdrawn when staff realised the mistake, Italian state TV reported.
In just a few hours, some 1,400 nights had been booked under the tariff, costing an estimated 90,000 euros for the hotel, part of the Intercontinental Hotels Group, the world’s largest chain, media reported.
Staff at the hotel, some 25 km (16 miles) outside Venice, declined to comment. A spokeswoman for Intercontinental Hotels Group was not immediately available.

Making money online – Moolah

I’ve started to get serious about making money online. One of the blogs I recently bought is, which is all about making money online. I’m going through the old posts and I’m going to try out every bit of it. I will be posting all of my results here along with new content for this site.

I figure the first thing to do is to go through Casey’s post and see if I can learn what she is teaching. I’m starting at the back and working forward, so the first post on this blog is about Moola. Here is the link to Casey’s post on Moola.
I promise, I will be adding strategies and tactics of my own, but for the moment, I need to get up to speed on what everyone here already knows. At first glance, Moola seems interesting. I’ve grown pretty distrustful of any kind of gaming through the years. The reasons casinos are so big is because most people lose, so I’m sure that there is a lose factor built in to Moola. I’m going to sign up though and give it a shot.
It’s actually pretty fun and the upside is that they do give you your first penny. The whole concept is that if you double that penny 30 times, you have $10 million dollars! Not bad. I just played my first couple of games and I’ve won so far. Of course, I’m still in the .25 cent or less range.
It’s free to sign up and more amusing than taking facebook quizzes.

Poor Vago

Welcome to Poor Vago’s Almanack

Changes are never really easy, and the change in servers, layout, format, and name has been a process I thought would be just a few hours but that ended up being almost a week. Finally, I think things have stabilized and now we can get back to the business of whatever the business is that has brought us here.

First of all, I’d like to tell you about this blog. All along, this blog has been a generalized sort of place where I share those things that come across my plate with you. If I think it is interesting, I will share it here. As usual, there will be a mixed bag of just about anything and everything that you can imagine. Naked stories, monkey stories, interesting websites, Kim Jong Il, and everything else under the sun are open game.

You may notice that doesn’t bring you here anymore. There is a reason for that, to get to it, I need to tell you a bit of a yarn. Back when I started blogging, I had started a used book site that I thought was pretty funny. It was called Essentially, I started selling books on craigslist, then I put together a website, and it all came about because I had looked around my apartment and said “What am I going to do with all these fukn books?” It worked pretty well, but I started getting canned from craigslist because to be honest, I was spamming in many cities. So I needed to get traffic. My friend Steve suggested I start a blog. So I did. I bought the domain name As in, Fukn news, fukn us, or fukn U.S. At the time I was pretty enamored of the daily show and so I thought it was pretty good. I was paying for individual hosting for all my sites (,, etc.) and it made sense to move everything to one server and hosting account. So I moved to Godaddy and put and everything else on subdomains of one hosting account. Then I simply pointed the domain name So it looked like it was going to the domain, but actually it was going somewhere else. If that makes any sense.

Eventually, I noticed that looked like a porn site to web bots and so I changed the name to the much less offensive, of course this eventually made my name associated with terrorsuspects, so finally, I chose, a word I essentially made up. It was a word I liked but I realized that it was actually difficult for people to remember or even to say (x-is-ten-sis) and plus I had really began to realize that the redirecting of URL’s to another url was creating issues with more advanced web crawlers and search engines.
In addition, I found that by having such a diverse range of content, I was driving some readers off who only wanted to read one kind of thing. Looking around this blog you will find personal journeys, news, politics, financial, spiritual, and other oddiments. So for those of you who don’t like that kind of thing (whatever kind) it was probably pretty sucky to want to see travel stuff and instead be treated to my insane political views or my personal spiritual revelations.
So I started spinning blogs off from this one. First of all, I created
Clownjazeera is a site that covers politics and news in a way that only Scary Arab Clowns can. Lots of pictures of clowns and lots of vitriol.
Next came This is a site that is dedicated to the financial and business of the world. In fact, if you want to know what is really going on in the world of money and markets, this is where to look. The reason it is touted as the least trusted source of financial news is because JayPee and company give it to you straight.
If you just love checking out gorgeous babes, have a look at Vagobunny has pictures of beautiful women from all over the globe. It is work friendly with no porn, but these are super sexy women from (eventually) every country on the planet. If you want to submit pictures of hot women from all the nations of the world, you can do that too.
If you love all my spiritual mumbo jumbo, you can go to where you will find my unique view of the spiritual world still going on in full effect. Existensis is still a work in progress, so please be a little patient while I get it all together.
In addition to that, I’ve recently acquired a number of wordpress blogs, blogger blogs, and a few more domain names. Most recently, I’ve acquired three fully functional blogs that I am in the process of developing. They are: All things XBOX.
NewsNotion.comA make money on the internet blog. Eventually, a free-ebooks website.
I haven’t had the chance yet to make any changes to them, so what you see is what the previous owners were able to do with them.
And of course there is more.

Last but not least, is this site itself, re-branded as Poor Vago’s Almanack. This site will continue to be the hodgepodge of this and that that it has always been. If you are a generalist and want to check out everything that is going on in my world of blogs, this is the place to come to. If not, pick your favorite and go there.
From this point forward, no more domain forwarding or masking.
If you want to write for any of these blogs, there is a possibility and it starts with becoming an active participant.
